The Pilates method of exercise (pronounced puh-lah-teez) was created by the German born immigrant Joseph H. Pilates. Pilates is a gentle method of exercise which is performed on a mat and also spring resistance equipment targeting conscious movement. By integrating the mind, body and spirit a coordinated movement is created giving the client a passage to improved posture, alignment and physical wellness. “Contrology” is what Joseph Pilates called his exercise regime. It is the unity of proper breath and body control, balance, concentration of the mind and the flowing rhythmic movement of the body connected to the mind.
Contrology will find your core muscles or your ‘center, it will improve your flexibility, strength as well, and most importantly it will give you awareness of how you hold your body in space. The exercises target the whole body. The principles learned in turn can be applied to your other athletic interests making Pilates the smartest form of exercise available. The goal of the work is to create uniform development of the body with a sound mind. As Joseph said, “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.”
Everyone can benefit from doing Pilates. Concentration and commitment to doing your best is all that is required. Unlike any other exercise system, doing Pilates develops long, lean muscles and a strong center, the essential ingredients to maintaining good posture and balanced alignment. Even after one lesson, many find they sit and stand taller, move more gracefully, and are eager to experience more.
We suggest you begin Pilates by taking 3 private lessons. In these early lessons, we will modify and adjust the exercises to your own body and teach you to correct for any postural problems, previous injuries, or current limitations you may have. While learning Pilates exercises, you will “find” and properly activate the body’s core muscles particularly the four layers of abdominals and the muscles of the spine. You will be asked to engage your mind to perform both deep and percussive breathing. By developing proper technique and awareness, you will actually be retraining your body to move in safer, more efficient movement patterns. Once that is achieved, you will progress into the more uniqueand exciting¬†exercises. You may even find yourself in positions and stretches doing things younever thought possible. All new clients qualify for our special Introductory Package, 3 classes for just $99.¬† Within those 3 classes you will learn excercises on both the floor and all equipment aswell as tips for home practice.¬† Once you have completed you first 3 classes you may continue working one on one with the teacher or ask to be placed in a group class that is appropriate to your ability. Contact us at 801-647-9484 or firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule your 3 private sessions.
Please arrive 5 minutes early to your first class to fill out some paper work.
You will reap the benefits if you do three hours of Pilates a week. Noticeable differences will be visible with two sessions a week. As Joseph Pilates stated, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 sessions you’ll see the difference, and in 30 sessions you’ll have adifferent body.
